These new beds are in line with our centre philosophy in that all children are capable and competent and the respectful practice that underpins this means the children have more control over their own sleep patterns. The pēpi that are moving are able to climb in and out of their own beds, and also signal to us when they have finished resting. The beds are less scary for them as many of our pēpi do not sleep in cots at home and those that do still have a safety barrier around them to prevent them falling.
Our tamariki you see sleeping on the mattresses are transitioning to our over twos and no longer require a bed everyday.
