On Friday the pēpi left the centre and went on the first official walk. They went to Cornwall Park in Hastings and had a wonderful time checking out the birds in the aviaries, exploring the park and feeding the ducks.
The pēpi learn a lot from adventuring out into the community and environment, as Pennie Brownlee says “you cannot learn to love something, you know nothing about”. The ability to explore nature allows our pēpi and tamariki to grow their knowledge about the world around them. Through the growth of this knowledge they will come to understand the importance of nurturing and taking care of their surroundings which leads to the preservation of their environment and respect for all that is within.
We are lucky to live in one of the most beautiful places in the world, we will endeavour to expose our pēpi to as much of the natural environment as we can, so they can download this beauty directly rather than just from books and texts.
