Programme and Curriculum Overview

Here at Morgan Educare Centre 2, our practices are guided by the teachings of Pediatrician Dr Emmi Pikler and the RIE philosophy. We believe developing emotionally responsive and respectful relationships is the key to enable children to engage in quality play and learning experiences. A child that feels safe and secure will move freely within their environment and explore and learn with confidence.
We offer the Flaxmere community a whānau focused service for the care and education of infants, toddlers and young children from birth to six years of age.
Our carers are dedicated to providing your child with high quality care and education through supporting many opportunities for meaningful exploration and learning through experiences appropriate to each child's unique strengths, interests and developmental needs. Natural resources are seen as highly valuable for exploration and discovery and are available throughout the learning environment and across the curriculum. Teachers remain respectful and flexible as they meet the infants, toddlers and young children's daily holistic needs.
Our centre is divided into two age defined areas, the under two setting and the over two setting.

Under 2 Setting (Birth-2yrs)
When your child participates in the under 2 setting at Morgan Educare Centre 2, they will receive nurturing, holistic care from dedicated and consistent primary caregivers. With great adult to child ratio, teachers take time to engage in care moments such as nappy changing and hand washing with the infant or toddler. This is an essential part of building respectful, meaningful relationships with participating infants and toddlers. Through taking our time to build these strong relationships in respectful partnership with the child, teachers can ensure that learning experiences provided for children are meaningful to their unique strengths, interests and developmental level.
We see eating times as an experience to be shared and celebrated. At meal times, infants and toddlers sit together on appropriately sized stools or in a teacher's lap. Children eat from glass cups, crockery and stainless cutlery as we know they can use them correctly.
Children choose to explore in ways meaningful to them with exploration of our garden, messy play, puzzles, books, natural resources, poi and music being just some of the resources and learning experiences available for children's exploration.
The inside and outside environment are valuable spaces for play and exploration throughout the seasons and we believe that it is essential that both are set in beautiful ways which delight the senses and invite exploration, learning and development.
The children and teachers in this environment have regular interaction with the children over 2. We feel that this interaction helps to build strong relationships and a sense of belonging and well being for our youngest participants. So at morning tea time, the teachers and children sometimes venture to the over 2 setting for waiata and kai.

Over 2 Setting (2-6yrs)
When your child participates in the over 2 setting, you can expect that they will receive nurturing care and education which meets their individual holistic needs from professional and dedicated teachers.
Strong relationships between the teachers and children are built on meaningful and respectful interactions with the children. This includes the partnership built through care moments and extends to all interactions with children. It is through the development of strong and respectful relationships that the teachers can offer genuine learning experiences which aim to extend on children's strengths and interests while effectively meeting their developmental level.
Learning experiences throughout the curriculum remain relevant to children's strengths and interests and strongly support children's love for learning. It is with a love for learning that children's early understandings of literacy, numeracy and science can be truly supported.
It is in the over two setting that children begin to participate in mat times. Mat times are filled with songs, games and stories aimed to extend children's interests in fun, in flexible and creative ways.
The inside and outside environments are set in a beautiful way to both delight the senses and invite participation. Children will be involved in a vast range of learning experiences including creative exploration and expression, dramatic play, messy play, and the exploration of the garden and outside environment.
Kai time is a special time for the children and teachers. The table is set with table cloth, vases of fresh flowers and candles for all meals, and children help to create their own table mat for lunch times.
Natural resources are seen as highly valuable for exploration and discovery and are available throughout the learning environment and across the curriculum.
We go on regular outings into the immediate and wider community and over 2 children come on the weekly walk to the library.
